Kavitha Lankesh is a renowned and experienced film director, lyricist and screenwriter of Kannada film industry. She made her directorial debut with a documentary film, followed by Kannada feature film Deveeri in which went on to win many international film awards. Though she has directed only lesser number of movies in her career, they have won critics appreciation as well as many national and international awards in different categories. Her movie, Preethi Prema Pranaya won the best regional film in Kannada at national award.

She was born in Bangalore in Her father P. Lankesh was a noted writer and journalist of Kannada language and founder of highly successful weekly tabloid Lankesh Patrike. She has two siblings, one brother and one sister. Her father describes her as the most sensitive and creative among the three. Her sister Gauri Lankesh serves as the editor of the magazine. Her brother Indrajit Lankesh is also an accomplished film maker of Kannada cinema. Kavitha completed Master’s in English and a diploma in advertising before entering the entertainment industry.
