The Lineage of Sa'd ibn Mu'adh
His name is Sa'd ibn Mu'adh ibn al-Nu'man ibn Imru' al-Qays ibn Zayd ibn 'Abd al-Ashhal. His nickname is Abu 'Amr. His mother is Kabshah bint Rafi' ibn Mu'awiyah ibn 'Ubayd ibn al-Abjar, and she was among those who pledged allegiance to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
The Conversion of Sa'd ibn Mu'adh to Islam
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had sent Mus'ab ibn Umair after the First Pledge of Aqabah to Medina to invite people to Islam and teach them the religion. As'ad ibn Zurara accepted Islam with him and began calling people to Islam alongside Mus'ab.
As for Sa'd ibn Mu'adh and Usayd ibn Hudayr, they were the chiefs of their people in Medina. When they learned about Mus'ab and As'ad, Sa'd ibn Mu'adh said to Usayd, "Go to them and see what they are about. As'ad is my cousin, and if it were anyone else, I would have dealt with him myself." Usayd took his spear and went to them. Mus'ab invited him to sit and listen, then recited the Qur'an to him, and Usayd accepted Islam.
Usayd returned to Sa'd with a changed demeanor. When asked about his experience, he said, "I spoke to the two men and saw nothing wrong with them. H

Background and Acceptance of Islam
Hazrat Sa‘d(ra) bin Mu‘az belonged to the Banu Abd al-Ashhal clan of the Aus tribe of the Ansar and was the leader of the Aus tribe. His father’s name was Mu‘az bin Nu‘man and his mother’s name was Kabsha(ra) bint Rafay, who was a companion of the Holy Prophet(sa). Hazrat Sa‘d(ra) bin Mu‘az’s title was Abu Amr. Hazrat Sa‘d(ra) bin Mu‘az’s wife’s name was Hind(ra) bint Simaak, who was also a companion. From Hazrat Hind(ra), they had two sons; Amr and Abdullah. Hazrat Sa‘d(ra) bin Mu‘az and Hazrat Usaid(ra) bin Huzair accepted Islam at the hands of Hazrat Mus‘ab(ra) bin Umair. Hazrat Mus‘ab(ra) bin Umair was sent to Medina prior to the Second Pledge at Aqabah when 70 companions [came to Mecca and took Bai‘at]. On the instructions of the Holy Prophet(sa), Hazrat Mus‘ab(ra) bin Umair would invite others towards Islam and recite the Quran for them. Abū ʿAmr Saʿd b. Muʿādh (Arabic: ابوعمرو سعد بن مُعاذ) (d. 5/) was one of the companions of the Prophet (s) and the chief of Aws tribe who became Muslim after the first 'Aqaba by Mus'ab b. 'Umayr in Medina and after him all his clan became Muslim. He fought in the battles of Badr and Uhud and was one of the close friends and delegates of the Prophet (s). During the betrayal of Banu Qurayza and after their defeat from Islamic army, Sa'd was chosen as their judge. During the Battle of Khandaq, he was wounded which led him to death. It is narrated from the Prophet (s) saying, "A thousand angels participated in his funeral." In Sunni sources, it is mentioned that his death shook the Divine Throne.
