I am currently a research professor at the college of the arts at University Florida, and my current research is at the intersection of Dance and AI, it is titled Atunda, a research in AI technology for analysing and annotating Afrogenic dance moves across cultures, whose ultimate purpose is to build a dance data bank for deep learning, and to task the intelligence generated from the data to help protect IP for future dance makers.

This is an interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers, data scientists, software engineers, and various dance communities, contributing significantly to various components of the project. We are deliberately thinking through the very notion of wealth redistribution, and asking very poignant questions on the possibility of wealth pre-distribution, using AI-driven movement recognition and classification methods. This project just received a major funding which I will be announcing soon, this opens up new economic opportunities for dancers who will now begin to earn income by participating in this dance and AI project.

What if there is an internet of things, based on a truly shared economy, which uses AI to analyze

Re:INCARNATION

Nigeria’s ground-breaking dance company explodes onto the stage with the sensational Re:INCARNATION.

An ode to the richness of Nigerian culture, this dance, music, fashion and visual art creation showcases the depth of ancient Yoruba philosophy mixed with Nigerian youth culture.

Bursting with pure and uncompromising joy, complete with live music on stage, ten dancers and two musicians perform the cycle of life with explosive energy, marked by the urban chaos of the Nigerian city of Lagos. Dressed in a kaleidoscopic array of colour and cloth, body paint, masks and props, they move with exuberant energy in this multi-sensorial work.

Paying homage to the wealth and profusion of Nigerian music, the show draws on Afrobeats, born
of an explosive cocktail of jazz, soul, funk, hip-hop and traditional African music. In this mix of urban cultures, a reincarnation of the personal journeys of each of the dancers comes to the fore, marked by their individual signatures.

Endless smoke of sage fill the air. Qudus Onikeku’s choreography and solo dance moves portraying the Yoruba’s spirit child is a journey, not a performance.

“We are going to agree to go on a journey. This is not a show. On this journey, knowledge won’t help you”.

The choreography is an out of body experience reincarnating fallen heroes of the African continent and those whose spirits were enslaved abroad, the Orient as well.

Spirit Child is a non-linear performance with no beginning and no end &#; like the human spirit. It comes alive over and over again through Onikeku’s movements resembling the Yoruba cosmology centred in the spirit of the living; the ancestors and the yet-to-be-born spirits.

It bears a dragging boredom which Onikeku mentions to be deliberate, descriptive of how unsettling and boring an unsettled spirit seeking a body can be.

Nigerian-born Onikeku reincarnates the spirits of Fela Kuti, Steve Biko, Winnie Nomzamo Madikizela-Mandela, Maya Angelou, Chinua Achebe, Edward Said and John Coltrane. His incredible movement of tendons and joints is light as a feather and heavy as the twins as omens in Yoruba culture.
