Yogendra Singh Yadav Biography

Yogendra Singh Yadav is the youngest person to ever be awarded the Param Vir Chakra, the highest military honour in India. He is a soldier and a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian army, aged 35 at present. He was given Param Vir Chakra at the age of 19, following his bravery in Kargil War , becoming the youngest person to receive this award. He played a significant role in recapturing Tiger Hill in Kargil and killed 8 Pakistani soldiers too. It was initially announced that he has been honoured posthumously, later to find that he survived, and undergoing treatment at a hospital following serious injuries. Yadav’s bravery has inspired many Bollywood films like Hrithik Roshan starrer Lakshya. His role was enacted by Manoj Vajpayee for J. P. Dutta’s LOC Kargil.

Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav, 18 Grenadiers, in the early morning hours of 4 July was part of the Commando &#;Ghatak&#; (Deadly or Lethal) Platoon tasked to capture three strategic bunkers on Tiger Hill. The approach was a vertical cliff face, snowbound at 16, feet. Grenadier Yadav, volunteering to lead the assault, was climbing the cliff face and fixing the ropes for further assault on the feature. Half-way up, an enemy bunker opened up machine gun and rocket fire. His Platoon Commander and two others fell to the heavy volume of automatic fire. Realising the enormity of the situation, he continued to scale the sheer cliff face alone through a volley of fire. In spite of having been hit by three bullets in his groin and shoulder, he climbed the remaining 60 feet and reached the top. Yogendra Singh Yadav was born on Saturday, 10 May (age 43 years; as of ) in Aurangabad Ahir village, located in Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh. He passed 10th standard from a government school in his village. While studying in class 12, he cleared the required test for military services on his first attempt and joined the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in June On 6 December , he graduated from the IMA after concluding his month training.
