nca | nichido contemporary artは坂本和也による個展「IN BLOOM」を開催いたします。
坂本はこれまで自身の趣味である水草の栽培（アクアリウム）を通して生態系の構成要素のなかに人間の社会環境との類似性をみたことから、水草をモチーフにして絵画を制作してきました。近年は制作の拠点を名古屋から米子へ移したことがきっかけでガーデニングをはじめ、「増殖」して増えていく水草に対し、「繁栄」して次の世代に種を残していく花の生存戦略に興味を持つようになったといいます。花の栽培、育種、観察を通して人生における偶然と必然、ライフサイクル、人間と自然との関係を考察しキャンバス上に展開します。
複雑に層を重ね、敢えて偶然性を取り入れ、時に坂本の身体をもって即興的に描かれる花々は、各々が存在感を残し絶妙にバランスを保ちながら生存する生命の強さ、戦略、刹那な運命についても表現されます。
本展では、本展のために制作した最新作を発表します。
ある庭の管理をすることになってから、１０年が経った。管理、といっても月に２度ほど数名が集まり、草を刈り、落ち葉を集め、時折樹木の剪定を専門家の手を借りながら行い、状態をキープすることだけようやくできている、という具合ではあるが。季節のサイクルと共に植物は変化し続ける。芽吹き、花をつけ、実がなり、枝だけを残して全てが失われたかのように見えるが、地表に落ちた有機物は分解され土となって養分として植物に還っていく。庭との付き合いは、人もまたそのような循環のうちに在る、という当たり前のことに気づかせてくれる。
少し前に鳥取に居を移した坂本和也は、広いスタジオと共に庭を手に入れ、絵を描きながら植物を育てる生活を送っている。種を蒔き、あるいは苗を植えて、多種多様な花を観察する時間から作品が生まれたという。どおりで彼の描く絵画は、いわゆる「静物画」のような花瓶に活けられたものとも、「花鳥画」のような装飾的で形式ばったものとも異なり、極めて動的だ。自由闊達に躍動するストローク、ドリップやスプラッシュの多用は、力をそのまま伝え、偶然性を取り入れる。色彩は画面上で混じりあい、「In Bloom」―開花という爆発的な刹那を捉えている。字義どおり、”ムーヴマン”-Mouvementが、カオティックなエナジーに満ちるこのシリーズの特質の中心を占めている。植物と向き合う日々の営みを通じて、その目に見えない内側からの力動を感受し、共鳴する身体を養ってきた坂本だからこそ、至ることの
